Indications/Uses
Treatment of upper & lower resp tract infections, acute otitis media & skin & soft tissue infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Clariget Adult 250 mg bid, may be increased to 500 mg bid in more severe infections. Duration: 6-14 days. Patient w/ renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min) 250 mg once daily or 250 mg bid in more severe infections. Duration: 14 days. Mycobacterial infections 500 mg bid, may be increased to 1,000 mg bid. H. pylori 500 mg tid for 14 days. Childn 7.5 mg/kg bid. Max: 500 mg bid. Clariget OD Adult 500 mg once daily. Severe infections Max: 1000 mg (2 x 500 mg) once daily for 5-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Clariget Concomitant therapy w/ terfenadine in patients w/ preexisting cardiac abnormalities or electrolyte disturbances. Pregnancy & lactation. Clariget OD Hypersensitivity to macrolides antibiotics. Patients w/ CrCl <30 mL/min. Concomitant use w/ astemizole, pimozide, cisapride, terfenadine, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, when in combination w/ ranitidine bismuth citrate on patients w/ a history of acute porphyria.
Special Precautions
Hepatic & moderate to severe renal impairment. Clariget OD Superinfection, pseudomembranous colitis, myasthenia gravis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, vomiting & diarrhea. Clariget Headache, taste perversion, transient elevation of liver enzymes.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, carbamazepine, terfenadine, digoxin, zidovudine, triazolam. Clariget Warfarin, ergot alkaloids, midazolam, cyclosporine, other macrolides. Clariget OD Astemizole, pimozide, cisapride, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, when in combination w/ ranitidine bismuth citrate on patients w/ a history of acute porphyria; drugs metabolized by the CYP450, quinidine or disopyramide, HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, oral anticoagulants, ritonavir, efavirenz, nevirapine, rifampicin, rifabutin, sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, colchicine, itraconazole.
